International Women in Engineering Day
In support of International Women in Engineering Day, we caught up with our newest service engineer.
International Women in Engineering Day takes place on Friday, 23 June. It’s a day to celebrate the amazing work that women engineers around the world are doing to support lives and livelihoods.
Here at Daikin, we’re very aware that women engineers are still hugely under-represented in the industry. And we’re always looking for ways to encourage more young women and girls to take up engineering careers.
So we’re delighted to share a profile on Emily King, our newest Service Engineer at Daikin. She started her new job on 20th June, reporting to Collin Tancred. We caught up with Emily to find out more about her career journey.
“Originally I was a plumber. I moved into installing ASHP four years ago, upskilling to install and service heat pumps. I’ve always been a practical person and I love problem-solving – it really is rewarding. It’s also nice speaking to customers and sorting out their issues.”
And here is her advice to someone considering a career in engineering.
“Go for it, I’d love to have more female colleagues. Heat pumps are the future and the need for skilled engineers is only going to increase. Engineering is a fantastic career, particularly if you like problem-solving. Everyone has been very supportive, and they have encouraged me to develop my skills. It is also fantastic to be part of the drive to achieving net zero.”
